Book Club

I didn't reach my goal for 2014 and reviewing it, I see it's kind of sad looking. But I'll take another perspective this year and attempt to read as many from 2014 as I can and see if I can endeavour to a minimum of 1 book per month.

2017 is an exciting year as I continue steaming through to get to my end goal
Animal Liberation by Peter Singer
Eighty Dollar Champion by Elizabeth Letts
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F--k by Mark Manson
And Then All Hell Broke Loose by Richard Engel
Persepolis by Paulo Werneck & Marjane Satrapi

----------

2016 brings a forced vacation, the summer of George and a renewed interest in reading:
As Always, Julia: The Letters of Julia Child & Avis Devoto edited by Joan Reardon
The Legend of Zippy Chippy by William Thomas
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
Mockingjay by Susan Collins

---------

2015 was a rough year for me... struggling with some major decisions in my life and major changes so I actually had read zero books! I couldn't believe myself either... plenty started but nothing actually accomplished.

----------

The original goal for 2014 wasn't met but what I did accomplish in 2014:
Cat Sense by John Bradshaw
Reaching the Animal Mind by Karen Pryor
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
Looptail by Bruce Poon Tip
5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman
The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory
Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky

---------

From 2013:
The Big Short by Michael Lewis
The World According to Garp by John Irving
Austenland by Shannon Hale
The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
The Cat Whisperer by Mieshelle Nagelschneider
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

  1. What a great list - a mix of genres and moods. It looks like you're off to an awesome start to me! I'm curious about Njal's Saga - it's written anonymously? That's so cool! I'm guessing it's a true story, then?

    1. yep! i think the best way to broaden my horizons is to go REALLY wide. even if some of them are not particularly interesting to read/tough to read.

it's one of the best (so i'm told) icelandic sagas ever written. and most/all icelandic sagas have a good deal of truth to it. i don't even know if i could list it as fiction or non-fiction... there is a hypothesized author but it isn't quite confirmed.

  2. Great goal list! I haven't read anything on your list except the Hunger Games books and I did have a failed attempt at reading Salt (just could not get into it), but I did read 5 Love Languages last month (given to me by a friend) and it was really interesting.

    1. I also highly recommend Julia Child's diary, My Life in France, if you haven't read it.

    2. did you read the third hunger games book? i'm saving it for when the second installment of the movie comes out so i can speed read the book and then binge watch two movies in a row...
salt is incredibly interesting. but it's definitely really dry too. needless to say, it took me a while to finish reading it :P
the 5 love languages was recommended me to read and i thought that it's very interesting to read. worth checking out since it's also a quick read.
i read that one first!! :D i really liked it. these letters provide even more context to the other one. i did want to read the julia and julia but i don't know about a book that was turned into a movie... MAYBE?

if you get a list together, i'd love to check it out and perhaps add to mine :)

  3. Catching Fire is great! You should read Mockingjay when you finish the others on the list, and Divergent is also a good one.
